What Is The Definition Of Interobserver Agreement

In Study 1, 30 patients were scanned before the operation to assess ovarian cancer, and their scans were evaluated twice by the same observer to examine the agreement within the observer. In Study 2, 14 glioma patients were scanned up to five times. The resulting 49 scans were evaluated by three observers to examine the agreement between the observers. Endpoint variables were SUVmax in Study 1 and total cerebral hepherical glycolysis (GES) in Study 2. We understand repeatability as an agreement and not as an assessment of reliability (see Appendix), while the ICC is sometimes used as an assessment of repeatability [38, 39]. Since CCI is highly dependent on variation between subjects and can produce high values for heterogeneous patient groups [30, 31], it should only be used to assess reliability. We hope to contribute in the future to a more common use of the terms in line with the published guidelines for studies on the reliability of reports and agreements [6]. In addition, we assume that probably the biggest challenge is to clearly understand what exact question a researcher answers before conducting a study of agreement or reliability. Guyatt, Walter and Norman pointed out that reliability indices (such as CCI) are used for discriminatory purposes, while compliance parameters (such as RC) are used for assessment purposes [40]. The first focuses on a test`s ability to divide patients into interest groups despite measurement errors, while the second is based on the measurement error itself; with small measurement errors, it is possible to detect even small changes over time.[11] The guidelines for studies on the reliability of reports and the agreement [6] cover 15 issues that need to be addressed in order to improve the quality of reports. This may lead to separate publications on agreement and/or reliability alongside the main study, such as Kottner et al. with the objective [6]: “Studies may be conducted with an emphasis on estimating reliability and compliance themselves, or they may be part of larger diagnostic accuracy studies, clinical trials, or epidemiological investigations. In the latter case, researchers report compliance and reliability as quality control, either before the main study or using data from the main study.

Typically, results are reported in just a few sentences, and there is usually little space for reports. Nevertheless, it seems desirable to address all the issues listed in the following sections so that the data is as useful as possible. .
